The Uptons SchoolFoodies™ programs educate about nutrition and the environment. We strategically place posters and signs in central eating areas and plan to include daily “foodie facts” with delivered lunches. These are short 2-3 sentence statements from our on-staff dietitian.

We believe that cafeterias or any central eating area is an excellent venue for students to learn more about nutrition and the environment while eating lunch. All information presented is approved by our on-staff registered dietician.

We strive to teach:

  • Nutritional content of vegetables, fruits and other nutrient dense foods to increase trials. It takes 10 trials of a new food before it is accepted by the palate
  • How nutritional content of foods impact overall health, fullness, hunger and energy levels
  • Proper daily calorie intake and meal portions
  • How fats, proteins, sugars and carbohydrates are absorbed and affect the body both psychologically and physiologically
  • Why recycling and reducing our personal impact on the environment is important
  • Why organic produce free of pesticides is healthier for our bodies and for farm workers and animal life
  • What sustainable agricultural is and why it is an important eco-friendly trend
  • How to read nutritional information labels on packaged goods to understand the good and the bad
